X|Media|Lab began at the Sydney Opera House in June 2003. XML events are held in Australia, China, Hollywood, India, Korea, London, the Middle East, New Zealand, and Singapore.

XML has been staged at the Sydney Opera House, the Museum of Contemporary Art, and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image in Australia; the Great Hall of the People in Beijing and Suzhou Park in China; at Singapore’s iconic National Library Building; Digital Media City in Seoul; and Te Papa National Museum in New Zealand.

The Lab has partnered with the Sydney Film Festival, the Asia Media Festival, Broadcast Asia, ICCIE in Beijing, KOCCA in Korea, the Melbourne International Film Festival, and FICCI-FRAMES in India.
